Introduction
Perlego partners with OverDrive to make our library available through Libby, the reading app many US university libraries use to give students access to digital content. If you're in the US and your library has added Perlego, you can claim your access using credits your library has already set aside.
Good to know: You don't need to create a separate Perlego account or password to start reading if you're accessing Perlego through Libby. You'll only need to add an email address if you want to log in on the Perlego mobile app or share your bookshelves.
Check if your library offers Perlego
Not sure whether your university library offers Perlego as an Extra? Check this before you try to claim access.
Step by step
Log in to the Libby app, or go to libbyapp.com.
Make sure your university library is already connected to your Libby account. If it isn't, search for your library and add it first.
Go to Extras and search for Perlego.
If Perlego appears under Extras, your library offers it and you can claim your free 30-day access below. If it doesn't appear, your library hasn't added Perlego yet — check with your library or Libby support to confirm.
Claiming your access
Step by step
Open the Libby app, or go to libbyapp.com, and select your library.
Look for Perlego listed under Extras.
Select Perlego, then choose Get Access to activate your 30-day access.
You'll be signed in automatically and taken straight into Perlego — no separate account needed.
The first time you do this, you'll see a short welcome screen — "Your world of learning awaits" — asking you to accept Perlego's Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy. Select Continue to carry on into your library.
Your access lasts exactly 30 days from when you claim it.
How it works
You’ll be created with an anonymous account when you first access Perlego, so you won't see a typical Perlego sign-up or login screen at first
Adding an email unlocks: logging in on the Perlego mobile app, sharing your bookshelves, and logging in anywhere with a one-time code sent to your inbox (no password needed)
Perlego may prompt you to add an email as you're about to switch browser tabs, or when you log out. It is completely optional and enables a few more features such as access to the mobile app. You may add your email anytime in your settings on Perlego: https://www.perlego.com/settings
When your 30 days end
When your access ends, return to Libby to claim another 30 days — as long as your library still has Perlego credits available.
A banner will let you know your access is ending and point you back to Libby
You may also see an option to subscribe to Perlego independently if your library is no longer providing access. Note: always double check with Libby and/or your university about free access before continuing with your own paid access.
Troubleshooting
