Books labelled ‘Available until [date]’ and ‘No longer available’

Learn what these labels mean, how we notify you when a title is leaving, and what you can do next.

Updated today

Why is the book leaving the library?

A book can become unavailable for a few reasons, including:

  • sales rights changing (in a country or globally)

  • the title going out of print

  • licensing changes with a publisher

Good to know: sometimes a book can return later if highly requested or the licensing situation changes.

‘Available until [date]’

This message means the book is scheduled to leave Perlego on that date. You can keep reading as normal until then.

What to do next

  1. Finish what you need before the date

    • Prioritise key chapters, sections, and references.

  2. Save important learning in your own words

    • Add key takeaways to your Notebook as notes.

  3. Keep a backup of essential highlights

    • If you rely on highlighted passages, copy the important ones into a separate document while you still have access.

Tip: if you’re using the book for coursework, save the key points as notes in your Notebook so you still have them..

‘No longer available’

This message means the book is not currently available to read on Perlego.

How we notify you

Perlego book detail page for Homo Deus by Yuval Noah Harari, showing the cover on the left and a “Read” button on the right; a highlighted banner near the title (circled) says “Available until 19 Jun | Learn more.”

Whenever possible, we’ll give you advance notice before a book is removed.

  • Publishers typically provide notice ahead of time.

  • If we receive notice and you’re currently reading the book, we’ll do our best to alert you with a notification banner.

  • Occasionally, a book may need to be removed sooner (for example, if access rights change unexpectedly)

Want the book to return? Submit a suggestion.

If you’d like us to try to bring a book back (or make it available in your region), you can submit a book suggestion anytime.

What happens next

  • We use requests to understand demand and approach publishers.

  • We can’t guarantee a specific title will return, but high-demand titles have a better chance of being reconsidered.

Tip: if you’re studying from a reading list, ask classmates to submit requests too — demand really helps.

FAQ

Can Perlego guarantee a book will always stay available?

No. Availability depends on publisher rights and licensing.

I need this book urgently — what should I do?

Submit a request using Suggest a Book, and consider searching for a different edition or similar titles in the meantime.

What happens to my highlights and notes?

If a book leaves Perlego:

  • ✅ Your notes stay available in your Notebook

  • ❌ Your highlights won’t be visible while the book is unavailable

If the book returns later, you’ll be able to continue where you left off.

Will Perlego let me know before a book is removed?

Whenever possible, yes.

Publishers typically give us 30 days’ notice before a title is removed. If we receive notice and you’re currently reading that book, we’ll do our best to alert you with a notification banner.

In some cases, however, we may need to remove a book sooner (for example, if access rights change unexpectedly).
